Our First Community Kitchen Event at Appleby Blue 🍽️

We are thrilled to unveil a new chapter in our journey at United St Saviour’s Charity, marked by the recent launch of our community kitchen at the remarkable Appleby Blue Almshouse. This significant milestone was celebrated in true community spirit as we partnered with One Southwark for an event that not only inaugurated our community kitchen but also resonated with the ethos of One Southwark’s week of purpose.

A feast of unity and purpose

Against the backdrop of the newly unveiled Appleby Blue, participants from One Southwark’s program helped to create an inspiring endeavor that symbolised unity, shared purpose, and the magic of culinary-based connection. Guided by the skilled hands of our Community Kitchen Manager, Sofia, a dedicated team from United St Saviour’s Charity combined efforts with the members of One Southwark and volunteers, to create a lovely experience.

Culinary delights and shared moments

As the scent of culinary delights filled the air, the kitchen became a hub of activity and laughter. In the spirit of collaboration, the team worked together to craft a delectable Italian-inspired feast, from perfectly cooked pasta to vibrant greens, and refreshing watermelon to complement the flavorful ensemble.

More than just a meal

The event marked the first event for our community kitchen and signified the beginning of an engaging intergenerational program that lies at the heart of Appleby Blue’s vision. This program aspires to bring together the diverse residents of Southwark, irrespective of age, fostering connections that bridge generational gaps and cultivate a sense of belonging.

Cultivating connections through cooking

Appleby Blue is starting to emerge not just as a physical space, but as a blueprint for meaningful connection and holistic community development. The collaborative spirit demonstrated during this event sets the tone for what lies ahead – a continuous journey of breaking barriers, nurturing relationships, and celebrating the rich diversity that characterizes our community.

Looking ahead

As the aroma of the Italian-inspired feast filled the new building, conversations flowed freely, and bonds were formed that transcended the act of cooking itself. This first community kitchen event was a resounding success, setting the stage for an array of future gatherings that will further enhance the fabric of our community at Appleby Blue.

We extend our gratitude to the participants of One Southwark, whose presence and participation infused this event with purpose, energy and smiles!

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to create moments of connection, purpose, and joy for our residents and the wider Southwark community at the Appleby Blue kitchen.
