Southwark is a dynamic, exciting but unequal borough. Through our Community Investment programme we help to build stronger communities, create opportunities for residents to thrive, and promote equity.
We provide grants to community and voluntary sector groups whose activities contribute to the following outcomes:
- Southwark’s communities are inclusive, strong and supportive of each other (Strong, resilient communities)
- Southwark’s older residents are thriving (Positive ageing).
- That Southwark is a more equal borough (Levelling the playing field).
Our grants programmes open twice a year and we have two tiers of funding available (Large Grants – averaging £40,000 and Small Grants – up to £3,000). Find out more about how to apply here.
But we do more than just provide grants. We provide advice and support to local groups, and bring people together to share, reflect and learn. Partnerships are at the heart of what we do, and we work closely with the local authority, local businesses, other funders and Community Southwark to make Southwark a better place for everyone.
Being a funder brings its own challenging power dynamics, and we understand the tension this brings in relation to our ambition to promote equity. As such, we are involved with participatory and devolved grants programmes which are challenging the model of traditional grant-making.
