Golden Oldies

Walworth Golden Oldies is focused on enhancing the lives of seniors in Southwark – particularly those from Afro-Caribbean and African communities.  Led by Russell Profitt (MBE) and governed by a board comprised of service users and community volunteers, they work to combat isolation and loneliness, and to empower over 60s by responding to their needs, wants, and aspirations. They work in partnership with many other local groups, offering a range of support and opportunities. Activities include Story Writing, Bingo, Healthy Living Sessions, Digital Skills Workshops, Gardening Club, Walking Tours, and social events where members gather weekly to connect, learn and have fun.

They also reach out to those not able to attend events in person, particularly members with mobility challenges, and they also have a telephone befriending service so that those who aren’t able to come to the weekly activities, are also connected and feel cared for.

We have awarded them a 3 year unrestricted grant to carry on doing exactly what they do best – nurturing strong communities, meaningful relationships, and a sense of belonging.
