Representatives of North Southwark’s community groups were yesterday awarded ‘Southwark Stars’ in recognition of their volunteering hours contributed to Southwark’s community.

Big Local South Bermondsey Partnership, a resident led programme to transform community life over ten years on six housing estates on the Old Kent Road, won ‘community group of the year’ at Community Action Southwark’s annual awards ceremony; and two of the Partnership’s residents received individual Southwark Stars awards for their volunteering time on projects, activities and events with younger and older people and greening initiatives. The awards were presented by Cllr Michael Situ, Cabinet Member for Communities and Safety.

St Saviour’s also congratulates representatives of the following north Southwark community groups on their Southwark Stars awards: 16th Bermondsey Scouts, Bankside Open Spaces Trust, Blackfriars Settlement, Pembroke House, Siblings Together, Southwark Irish Pensioners Project, Southwark Mediation Centre, Southwark Sea Cadets and Time & Talents Association.
