The event, held at Appleby Blue, was a significant step in our commitment to The LGBTQ+ Housing pledge, which emphasises creating welcoming and inclusive spaces for residents.
We believe that everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and at home, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Celebrating LGBTQ+ History Month by addressing such an important topic felt like the perfect way to begin the club’s journey.
Our launch event centred around a powerful discussion panel led by Tyler John, head of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion at St Paul’s School.
We were honoured to have three esteemed panellists join us:
Dr. Terry Morris a resident at Hoptons Gardens
Bob Green OBE Head of Operations at Tonic Housing
Lynne Nicholls a long-standing London housing sector professional
Together, they explored the critical topic of creating inclusive housing options for older LGBTQ+ individuals.
The “Breaking Down Barriers” session was a dynamic and engaging conversation. Our panellists shared their expertise, experiences, and perspectives, answering questions and addressing key challenges facing the LGBTQ+ community in housing. The discussion highlighted the importance of fostering understanding, challenging stereotypes, and creating environments where everyone feels valued.
We captured some highlights of the event, including the panel discussion, and we’ve compiled a short video and photo gallery for you to experience the energy and passion of the day.
We are incredibly grateful to Tyler, Bob, Terry, and Lynne for their invaluable contributions.
Their insights will undoubtedly help us in our ongoing efforts to create a truly inclusive community.
This launch event, held during LGBTQ+ History Month, marks the beginning of our Rainbow Club’s journey. We are committed to continuing these important conversations and building a supportive network for older LGBTQ+ individuals.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended and participated, to the entire team who have worked to achieve this, and to our Deputy Chair Trustee Ben Johnson for his advocacy.
We’re delighted about the future of the Rainbow Club and the wonderful difference it will make to our residents.
