Your Right to Information
The STAIRs Scheme
STAIRs stands for the Social Tenant Access to Information Requirements. It is a new requirement introduced by government to make social housing providers more open, clear and transparent about how homes and services are managed.
Does this apply to your home?
United St Saviour’s Charity is registered with the Regulator of Social Housing as a Registered Provider for two of our schemes: Hopton’s Almshouses and Helen Peele Memorial Almshouse (HPMA). STAIRs applies to these homes. It does not extend automatically to our other almshouses or to our investment properties, which are not regulated in the same way. If you are unsure whether your home is covered, contact us.
How STAIRs protects you
STAIRs gives you greater visibility of how we run your home and estate, and a way to hold us to account. It comes in two stages.
1. Proactive publication — from 1 October 2026
We publish clear information on this website about our governance, spending, safety and performance, without you having to ask for it. We only have to publish information we already hold, so this page won’t include records created specially for STAIRs.
2. Information requests — from 1 April 2027
If you cannot find what you need on this page, you can ask us directly for information about the management of your home or estate. We acknowledge requests and respond within 30 calendar days. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can ask us to review it, and from there escalate to the Housing Ombudsman.
