The oldest resident at Hopton’s Gardens Almshouses in SE1 was on hand this morning to help plant four new trees in the garden.

Pamela Hewitt, 91, has lived at Hopton’s since 2016 and is a keen fan of the beautiful garden outside her window.  Along with many of her neighbours, Pamela had been waiting for the Charity to replace four trees in the front garden which were removed a couple of years ago due to disease. The lockdown had delayed the tree works being completed last year; but today the residents were delighted to see four new Yoshino Cherry trees planted in the front garden of their Southwark home.

Martyn Craddock, Chief Executive, joined Pamela and the rest of the tree planting team to help get the job done first thing thing this morning. Pamela said ” These trees will help to breathe new air into our city and will be enjoyed by residents and passers-by for many years to come”
