We’re proud to share that United St Saviour’s Charity has partnered with the Alan and Babette Sainsbury Charitable Fund, Southwark Council, Southwark Refugee Communities Forum, Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers, Panjshir Aid, Southwark Citizens Advice, Southwark Law Centre and Community Southwark to form the Borough of Sanctuary Coalition — a joined up funding and support collaboration for refugees, asylum seekers, people fleeing violence and harm and communities across Southwark.
The coalition brings together a place-based funder, a family foundation with a migration-focused strategy, and a group of frontline grassroots organisations who hold deep, long-standing relationships with the communities they serve.
Together, we’ve developed a model built on pooled, multi-year funding that offers participating organisations greater stability, reduced competition, and the space to respond — collectively — to the fast-changing legislative and economic pressures facing the migration sector.
Frontline organisations like Southwark Refugee Communities Forum and Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers carry irreplaceable knowledge of their communities. Our role as a funder is to protect and strengthen that.
The Borough of Sanctuary Coalition model demonstrates how comparatively modest, coordinated place-based investment can stabilise an entire local ecosystem — enabling joint advocacy, stronger referral pathways, and more coordinated responses to emerging crises.
At United St Saviour’s Charity, our mission is for a united Southwark — with strong, inclusive and equal communities where everyone can thrive. The Borough of Sanctuary Coalition is a direct reflection of that mission. As a charity, we believe that sustainable change in a place requires trust, presence, and genuine partnership with the organisations already doing the work.
