A Vision Realised
Appleby Blue represents a new benchmark in social housing for older people. Designed by the award-winning Witherford Watson Mann Architects, the development features a range of communal spaces, including a community kitchen, hobby rooms, and the beautiful Garden Court. These spaces are designed to foster intergenerational connections and create a vibrant, supportive community.
An Inspirational Launch Event
The launch event was a joyous occasion, attended by residents, partners, and supporters. We were honoured to have Lord Best OBE DL unveil the plaque, alongside our Chair of Trustees, Stephen Burns and Chief Executive, Martyn Craddock, to officially open Appleby Blue. Lord Best’s long-standing commitment to social housing and his role as Co-Chair of the APPG for Housing and Care for Older People made his presence particularly meaningful.
Community and Sustainability at the Heart
Appleby Blue’s design emphasises sustainability and community integration. Located on the bustling high street of Bermondsey, the development promotes active urban living while providing a peaceful, supportive environment for its residents. This project would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts of our partners. We extend our deepest gratitude to Southwark Council, JTRE London, Witherford Watson Mann Architects, and all the community organisations and individuals who have supported us. Your contributions have been invaluable in bringing this vision to life.
A huge thank you to Photographer, Eve Milner for allowing us to showcase her photography of the build process from start to finish. We also want to thank our amazing resident and artist, Rohan Lopez, for presenting us and our friends at Southwark Charities with wonderful artwork.
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate this moment, we remain focused on our mission to enhance the lives of older adults in Southwark. Appleby Blue is more than just a housing development; it is a community where residents can thrive, connect, and continue to lead fulfilling lives. We look forward to building on this success and exploring new ways to support our residents.
