United St Saviour’s Charity is seeking a skilled, people-focused Community Centre Manager to lead the shared spaces at Appleby Blue Almshouse — our RIBA Stirling Prize-winning model of later-living in Bermondsey.
Appleby Blue is a place where older residents and local people regularly come together — sharing food, learning new skills, taking part in activities and connecting with their neighbours. The Community Centre Manager will play a key role in animating these spaces, ensuring they are well-used, well-managed and open to all.
About the Role
You will be a visible, hands-on manager who ensures our community centre runs smoothly each day.
You will:
- Animate and programme our community centre, with activities for people of all ages
- Develop strong partnerships with local organisations, voluntary groups and community members
- Lead and support staff, casual workers and volunteers
- Manage bookings, room hire income, budgets and operational processes
- Maintain high standards of safety, presentation and readiness across all spaces
- Work closely with the Resident Support Team to shape activity that supports residents’ wellbeing and connection
This is a role for someone who enjoys working directly with people and who can bring consistency, organisation and creativity to a community-facing environment.
About You
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is warm, approachable and confident working with a wide range of people
- Has experience running community spaces or delivering community programmes
- Is organised and comfortable managing operational detail
- Is proactive, calm and solutions-focused
- Can build trust with residents, partners and colleagues
- Is committed to open, inclusive community life
