United St Saviour’s Charity is looking for an exceptional new Chair to lead our Board of Trustees. For almost 500 years, we’ve supported the people and communities of Southwark — and over the last decade we’ve nearly doubled our housing provision, delivered Appleby Blue (winner of the RIBA Stirling Prize, the UK’s most prestigious architecture award), and grown our voice and influence well beyond our borough.
As Chair, you’ll work closely with Chief Executive Martyn Craddock to steward our strategy, governance and finances, and help lead an ambitious ten-year plan: more homes for older people, deeper community investment, and a bigger national voice on housing and ageing.
Outgoing Chair Ben Johnson says: “Whoever takes on this role will inherit a charity in a position of real strength, with the opportunity to leave as significant a mark on its future as those who came before.”
We’re looking for someone with:
- Board leadership experience, ideally having chaired a board or significant committee before
- Senior leadership experience in a medium-to-large charity or purpose-driven organisation
- Strength in one or more of: housing & property, governance, community development, or finance
Time commitment: c. 2–3 days a month
Closing date: 14 October 2026
